Policyholder Emergency & Claims Support

Claims Center & Emergency Support.

When an unexpected accident, storm, or transportation loss occurs, knowing what to do immediately can protect your safety, your policy rights, and your financial recovery.

Action Protocol

Immediate steps following a loss

Follow these recommended procedures at the scene or immediately upon discovering property damage before filing your claim.

01

Ensure Safety & Call 911

Prioritize physical safety. If anyone is injured or there is active danger, call emergency services immediately. Move vehicles out of traffic flow if possible and safe.

02

Notify Law Enforcement

Obtain an official police report for any traffic collision, theft, break-in, or property damage. Note the responding officer’s name, badge number, and accident report ID.

03

Document Thoroughly

Take comprehensive photos and videos of all damage, license plates, scene layout, skid marks, and weather conditions. Exchange insurance credentials and collect eyewitness contact details.

04

Mitigate Secondary Losses

Take reasonable emergency measures to prevent further damage, such as turning off main water valves during a leak or tarping an exposed roof opening. Retain all receipts.

Understanding Claims

Why claims should be reported directly to your carrier first.

Insurance carriers maintain dedicated 24-hour claims response teams, emergency mitigation networks, and field adjusters who can authorize emergency towing, water extraction, or rental replacement immediately.

Filing directly with your carrier ensures your loss is assigned a claim number without delay, especially outside normal agency office hours or over weekends.

The Sky First Insurance Role: As your independent agency, we do not adjudicate claims or issue settlement checks, but we serve as your personal advocate. If you have questions about deductibles, experience delays reaching an assigned adjuster, or need guidance on documentation, contact our office during business hours.

Claims Advisory

Claims guidance & common questions.

Should I file a claim if the repair estimate is close to my deductible?

If damages are only slightly above your deductible, paying out of pocket may protect your claims history and prevent surcharges at policy renewal. Consult with your Sky First agent to evaluate the cost-benefit before filing non-mandatory property claims.

What information do I need when reporting an auto claim?

Have your policy number, accident date and location, police report number, photos of vehicle damage, and the contact and insurance details of all other involved drivers and witnesses ready.

Can I choose my own auto body or property repair contractor?

Yes. Under Maryland law, policyholders have the right to select their preferred licensed repair facility or contractor. Insurers cannot mandate a specific repair shop, though they may offer guaranteed direct-repair networks for convenience.

Statutory Claim Fraud Warning:

Any person who knowingly and with intent to defraud any insurance company or another person files an application for insurance or statement of claim containing any materially false information, or conceals for the purpose of misleading information concerning any fact material thereto, commits a fraudulent insurance act, which is a crime and subjects the person to criminal and civil penalties. (Not applicable in CO, HI, NE, OH, OK, OR, or VT; in DC, LA, ME, TN, VA and WA, insurance benefits may also be denied).
